Shield back with curved crest rail that is attached to rear stiles with mortise and tenon joints. Within the shield, five rectangular spindles flare to triangles near the crest rail. The spindles terminate in a carved shell at the base of the shield. The shield back, crest rail, and spindles have decorative molding carved into their front edges. The framed trapezoidal seat is constructed with mortise and tenon joints. Original foundation upholstery consists of layers of marsh grass, burlap, horse hair, and another layer of burlap. Original, over-the-rail, horse hair upholstery is decorated with round headed, brass tacks applied in a swag pattern. The therm front legs have carved molding along the front edges. The rear stump legs curve outward at the bottom of the legs. H-shape and rear stretchers are attached to legs with mortise and tenon joints. Two connected sheets of tin cover the underside of the seat.
