Surmounting the case are three chalice-and-spire finials: two are posted at the front corners and not attached to plinths, one is central and fixed to an elongated plinth, which is elevated on a trapezoidal pediment that is molded and takes a cavetto profile. Behind the central finial is pierced fretwork. The bottom edge of the pediment is molded. The upper segment of the case features a door with bell-shaped window revealing the white-painted dial. The dial has Roman numerals, thin minute and hour hands to designate time, and a winding hole. Below the chapter ring is the maker's inscription. The door has a lunette-shaped drop pull. The base of the upper segment is lined with decorative molding. The lower segment is outlined in an inlaid frame. Around the base is banding. The skirt is shaped, dipping down and rounded at center flanked by spikes. The base sits on French feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Unidentified wood; Glass; Unidentified metal"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on approximate working dates of maker."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1806 - D:00 M:00 Y:1835"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by label."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Inscribed by maker.
