Palmer captions the photo with an attribution to Simon Willard (1753-1848). The hood and trunk of the two pieces are indistinguishable, but the base section on the White clock is slightly wider and has decorative molding, while the clock in Palmer's book clearly has a narrower base. Little biographical information can be verified regarding John White. A survey of the Boston Directories and Ancestry records does not yield any indication of a Boston address or occupational details related to the maker. Given the similarity between this clock inscribed by White and clocks produced by the Willard brothers, they probably had a working relationship. Albert Sack's advertisement in Antiques (July 1954) pg. 9 supports this claim, as the trunk is similar in design to clocks produced by the Willards, it may have been their work. Because of the inscribed dial face and style of the clock, there is little reason to doubt maker or date attribution, but it cannot be proven beyond presumption that White worked alongside the Willard brothers."},{"label":"Subjects (AAT)","value":["Tall case clocks","Floor clocks"]},{"label":"Subjects","value":["Longcase clocks"]},{"label":"Bibliography","value":"Advertisement: ?Ç£Feature of the Month,?Ç¥ Antiques 66, no. 1 (July 1954): 9. The hood of the clock has an arched pediment surmounted by fretwork with three ball and spire finials. Columns flank the left and right sides of the hood. There is decorative molding along the top edges of the hood front and sides. The hood door is arched and has a dial door lock, it opens to expose a dial. The clock features a moon phase and lunette and painted spandrels. The dial has hour and minute hands, Roman numerals along the edges, and two winding holes. Inscribed on the dial is: [J. White / Boston]. The trunk has stop-fluted columns flanking the trunk. The tops and bases of the column are caped with brass column capitals. The trunk door is squared with an inlaid border. The top and bottom of the base section has decorative molding. The base appears to be veneered and sits on bracket feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Inscription on dial: [J.
