The birch rails are attached to the posts with bolts in large pockets covered by circular brass mounts. Four fabric-covered, L-shaped brackets extending below the rails support the box spring; the apparatus and bedding are replaced. Brass hooks have been inserted under the side, front, and rear rails in order to hang a skirt rod. The pine headboard is mortise and tenoned or set into the posts. It is curved across the top edge with pronounced cyma curves at the upper corners. The short edges are concave, and the headboard attaches to the posts at two points on either side. The posts are high and continuous with the legs. The head posts are square and flat, tapering upward toward the tester. The foot posts are round and carved: a globular, gadrooned cylinder extends down from the tester to a vase-shape carved with four downward facing acanthus leaves and eight upward-facing acanthus leaves. Below an urn-shape is carved with a more stylized leaf pattern followed by reeding. A wide ring carved with gadrooning is flanked by two concave rings above the canted rectangular block that forms the tops of the legs. The pine tester is likely a later replacement, composed of a rectangular framed construction. The legs of the head posts are rectangular and tapered with rounded edges. The legs of the foot posts are turned and terminate with integral bun feet.
