The desk interior is constructed with drawers and pigeonholes flanking a central prospect unit. On each side of the desk, two wide drawers are stacked above three side-by-side pigeonholes. Each drawer is fitted with a single knob. The pigeonholes are surmounted with arched, notched valances. The prospect door has an inset shell carving. The prospect door appears to have a different surface finish than the rest of piece and may be replaced.  The lower section of the case has four drawers, the fronts of which are shaped to reflect the overall oxbow design. The uppermost drawer is flanked by two sliding lopers, each of which has a single knob. The remaining drawers are full-width. The drawer fronts and the lopers are edged with beaded molding. The drawers appear to be fitted with locks. Each drawer has two pulls with stamped oval plates that appear to be of a later date than the rest of the piece.  The desk rests on four ogee bracket feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Printed label: [ANDREW BRIMMER, / No. 52, CORNHILL, BOSTON, / HAS FOR SALE, / A general Assortment of / GOODS. / By Wholesale and Retail, / Exceeding Cheap for Cash.]"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Unidentified wood"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale","Queen Anne"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"The Antiquarian cites an inventory from December 1789 that locates the desk in Waldoboro, Maine (see Bibliography and History of ownership)."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1760 - D:00 M:00 Y:1789"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Frothingham worked in Charlestown, Massachusetts."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Charlestown, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Attributed to Frothingham by Dyer in in The Antiquarian (see Bibliography) and based on comparison with a labeled Frothingham slant-front desk offered in the 1930 Flayderman sale (see DAPC_1965-0904)."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Frothingham, Benjamin, Jr., cabinetmaker, 1734-1809"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Secretary; Secretary desk; Fall-front desk; Bureau-cabinet; Drop-front desk; Straight-front desk; Drop-front cabinet"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Desk"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Case furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Slant-front desk"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/20/2018"}],"description":"Slant-front desk","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8bb3f820-e17f-4989-850e-afe7f3103cea/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_1964-1072-001_original","height":1343,"width":1500,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/00630163-eab6-4a80-bed4-e31eecd75862/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/00630163-eab6-4a80-bed4-e31eecd75862","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1343,"width":1500},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8bb3f820-e17f-4989-850e-afe7f3103cea/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/00630163-eab6-4a80-bed4-e31eecd75862/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8bb3f820-e17f-4989-850e-afe7f3103cea/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"dapc_1964-1072-005_label","height":1032,"width":1500,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a565a006-a282-4ac4-aa5b-d10172328f8f/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a565a006-a282-4ac4-aa5b-d10172328f8f","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1032,"width":1500},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8bb3f820-e17f-4989-850e-afe7f3103cea/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/a565a006-a282-4ac4-aa5b-d10172328f8f/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/00630163-eab6-4a80-bed4-e31eecd75862/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
