The back is composed of four bowed slats with arched tops and flat bases. The slats are graduated in height, with the tallest at the top.    The legs and stiles have contoured ball turnings. The stiles terminate in bulb-shaped finials. The front stretchers have a row of ball turnings at the center and at the joint with the front legs. Two plain, turned, side stretchers join the front legs to the rear stiles. A single plain stretcher joins the two rear stiles.    All elements except the slats are joined with round mortises and tenons. The tenons of the side chair rails and lower right stretcher have blown out through the front legs of the chair.    Scribe lines on the stiles mark the bottom of the mortise for each splat. The rush seat is modern. The clear finish may also be modern.    The legs appear to be cut at the bottom and may have had an additional ball at the base in the front.
