The lid of the chest is a single, solid board that overhangs the sides and front is attached with off-set strap hinges. An applied half round over an ogee molding is nailed on the edges. A bare storage area is beneath the lid.    The case sides are frame and panel construction with pegged mortise and tenon joints and thick floating panels chamfered on the interior edges. The stiles are continuous with the legs. The case front is frame and panel construction. At one time a lock was installed on the interior with a keyhole and evidence of an escutcheon plate. The lock has been removed and patched with a square piece of wood on the interior of the case. The keyhole has been filled. A central stile divides the front into two panels. Molding is applied within the panels on the exterior to create six sided geometric figures.    A single full width drawer is fitted between the stiles beneath the paneled front. The drawer front is solid, with full height sides that are joined to the front and back with hand cut dovetails. The sides are grooved to accept runners that are nailed to the case side, joined to the case front with a mortise and tenon joint, and pass through a mortise in the lower back board. The drawer bottom is two boards with grain oriented side to side and chamfering on the underside at the front and sides. The drawer bottom is let into grooves in the sides and nailed to the underside of the back. The rail beneath the drawer is attached to the stiles with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The knob on the drawer front is a replacement.    The case back is made up of two boards. The upper board is the back of the storage area. The floor of the interior storage area is cut to fit within the contours of the interior and extends under and is nailed to the underside of the back board. A second board of riven red cedar is nailed to the front of the rear legs below the case bottom.    The legs and box stretchers are knob turned and joined with pegged mortise and tenon joints. Castors have been attached to the end of the legs.
