The desktop is composed of five boards: a panel framed writing surface attached with hinges to a single fixed board. The writing surface is covered with green wool baize. The desktop has overhanging edges on all sides terminating in a nailed half-round and cove molding, and it can be fixed open with a wooden brace screwed to the interior left side of the desk. The fixed top board is attached with glue. An engraved plaque is attached to the top surface of the fixed board that was likely once attached to the interior of the desk lid. The interior of the desk has four pigeonholes, the center holes being larger. The desktop once held a triangular pierced gallery surrounding the back and extending onto the sides of the fixed board that was attached to the top with nails. It is carved with scrolled shapes at the center and corners. The sides of the desk frame are single slanted boards attached with dovetails to the front and back frame boards. The front of the desk frame has a wooden keyhole surround. The bottom of the frame is surrounded with a nailed cove and half-round molding. The desk is supported by three panel framed boards at the back and sides. There are glue blocks below the desk attaching it to the lower frame. A nailed half-round molding surrounds the recessed boards, and it is nailed to the back recessed panel only. At the front edges below the desk, curved corner blocks are applied and topped with double bead and cove molding that is continuous around the sides and back of the desk.
