The back of the chair is racked back slightly. Continuous carved molding runs along the yoke-back crest rail, curved shoulders, and rear stiles. Under the molded section of the crest rail, there is a foliate carving that appears to have been altered or cut down. Two vertical banisters on the back of the chair form a central caned panel, which is bounded at the top and bottom by the crest rail and a horizontal rail. The banisters and horizontal rail have decorative moldings on the front surfaces. There is evidence of previous upholstery on the chair back.    The trapezoidal seat is framed using mortise and tenon construction. The original boards in the seat display evidence of early caning. According to museum records, the seat was upholstered around 1900. A layer of wood boards is nailed to the underside of the seat over the original frame. The chair has four baluster-turned legs. The rear legs are racked back and squared at the foot. The chair has turned front and rear stretchers, as well as side and medial stretchers assembled in an H-shape.
