An ogee-curved projected crest peaks at the center and features a cartouche at the apex flanked by the beaded, scrolled terminals of the split arch. The outward ends of the crest have bead and cyma-curved molding. The tops of the rear stiles are fluted. Facing outward on the stiles are projecting carved plinths with square pyramids. Front-facing on the stiles are applied oblong tablets with squared shoulders. From the top of the rear stiles, the crest bows inward. Applied veneer cutouts fill the frieze, contouring along the curves of the pediment and padded back of the seat. The chairback is carved with volutes and padded. The upholstery is affixed with decorative tacks.  The arms from the rear stiles are textile, attached to the rear stiles with trefoil plates and nails and looped to the arm posts (which are continuous with the back legs) to give support. The bottom rail is carved with volutes and shaped to slope inward and at center is trapezoidal.  The padded seat is attached to the rear stiles with cyma-curved brackets with one nail used to fix the bracket to the stiles and another bolt or screw to attached the seat (with movability to allow for the seat to be folded up). Additional mechanisms beneath the seat support the chair's functionality. The padded seat is upholstered with fabric matching the chairback. Around the front and part of the sides is fringe comprised of twisted rope. To secure the fringe are spaced upholstery tacks.  The rear stiles are continuous and curve to form the front legs while the arm posts are continuous as the back legs. The legs are pivotally engaged, moveable by a bracket with a bolt or screw. A front and a back stretcher (which have ring turning at center) brace the legs.  According to David Hanks (once an assistant curator for the Art Institute of Chicago), as of 1970, the upholstery was original but the arm was repaired.
