(55.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"William and Mary-style drop-leaf gate leg table with drawer, possibly a reproduction. The table top consists of one fixed leaf and two hinged leaves. The fixed rectangular board with rounded edges is attached to the frame with screws in pockets. The hinged leaves are attached to the frame along the long edges of the fixed leaf. The frame consists of two long boards and one narrow board screwed and glued to the top and mortise-and-tenoned into fixed legs. The long sides of the frame have additional boards glued flush to the surface, with an opening in cut in for the swing-leg to be placed when the hinged leaves are closed. The frame also contains an opening for a single, narrow drawer. The drawer rests on a rail below the drawer opening and a rail running the length of the open bottom of the frame allows drawer to rest inside the frame. The front rail is tenoned into the legs and contains slight ogee molding. The drawer front, sides, and back are dovetailed. The drawer bottom is let into a groove in the front and sides. The table has four fixed legs that serve as the corners of the frame. These legs are connected with ball-turned stretchers that form a square around the base of the table, echoing the profile of the frame. In addition to the fixed legs, each long side of the table has a swing unit consisting of two legs connected with two horizontal stretchers; one leg is attached to the frame and fixed leg stretcher and serves as a pivot point while the other swings to support the underside of the hinged leaf. The upper stretcher of each swing unit is rectangular; the lower stretcher is ball-turned. When closed, the bottom of the swing leg slots into openings cut into the fixed leg stretchers. Each leg terminates in a ball foot.
