The flat top writing surface has a tall gallery with angled side supports that run from the middle depth of the top to the back. The supports are cut with a scroll sawn pattern and ornamented on the outside and on the front edge with shallow geometric carving consisting of a stylized flower, lines, holes and a saw tooth pattern. The back of the gallery is an extension of the case back. The single shelf is attached with flat head screws through a rail attached to the back panel. The front of the shelf has a concave edge detail. The top of the gallery has a sawtooth molding. The face of the gallery above the shelf has three matte glazed tiles inlayed with stylized, flat floral decoration in white on a pale blue ground. The tiles are set flush to the surface and are arranged in a diamond orientation. The back and the inward faces of the side supports are unornamented below the shelf.    A full width drawer opens to the front. The drawer has two triangular shaped ring pulls attached to diamond shaped surface plates that are mounted to the drawer front with four flat headed screws. The front drawer pull rings are no longer attached. A pair of incised lines is cut on either side of each pull. The central keyhole has a surface mounted escutcheon, also diamond shaped but with a slightly different pattern. The drawer is fitted into the drawer box. The drawer box has convex arched brackets beneath attaching the bottom to the case sides. The case front is frame and panel. The panels have inscribed vertical lines.    The left side of the case is frame and panel, reinforced with glue blocks.    Three full depth drawers open from the right side. The right side drawers are side hung and rest on runners that are nailed to the case side. Two drawer dividers are chamfered on the top edge. All of the drawers have solid fronts. The drawer bottoms are two piece, with grain running side to side. The drawer sides are attached to the front and back with hand-cut dovetails. The drawer bottom is let into a groove in the front and the sides. The front drawer bottom is nailed to the underside of the drawer back. The three right-hand drawers have unusually long bottoms that project well beyond the drawer back and act as stops.    At the front, the case sits on bracket feet that are canted forward, with an ornamental bracket with incised decoration above attached to the foot and the front stile. The rear legs are rectangular extensions of the rear stiles.
