(58.4 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"This dressing table was most likely the bottom half of a high chest of drawers that is related to a dressing table in the collection of the Winterthur Museum. The top is a single board that overhangs at the front and sides and is attached by screws in pockets. Not all of the screw pockets are used; it is likely that the top has been replaced. The top is multicolored with a much lighter color in a band across the front 4.5 inches deep. The wood color is uneven on the left two thirds of the board. There are several circular holes in the inside of the sides and back of the frame. Some have a pinhole that goes all the way through the side, and some were used to create the screw pockets. On the right side a pencil line is aligned with the top of the holes.    The case sides are single boards fitted between the squared tops of the front and rear legs. The case front includes the front skirt and two turned drops. The case back is a single board with the grain running horizontally. The back board is joined to the rear legs with pegged mortise and tenon joints. There is no case bottom. The skirt is cyma curved at the front and sides, with a central arch below the center front. The skirt sides have turned drops. The drop on the right side is missing. The tops of the cabriole legs are continuous with the corner block of the apron extending to meet the case top.    The curved cabriole legs have a central ridge at the knees. The legs terminate in integral pad feet with a central ridge.    A central drawer at the front is flanked by deeper side drawers. A double bead molding is attached to the drawer openings. The drawer fronts are solid. The drawer sides, back and front are joined with dovetails. The drawer sides are not full height. The drawer bottom is a single board with the grain running front to back. The bottom is nailed to the sides, to the underside of the back, and to the inside of the drawer front. The drawers rest on original runners dovetailed to the front rail and screwed to the back rail. Stop blocks are attached at the back of each runner. Drawer partitions are set into a rabbet and screwed to the top. The engraved batwing bail pulls and escutcheons are replacements.
