Surmounting the arched hood is a fretwork gallery with chalice-and-spire brass finials mounted to fluted plinths at the center and front corners of the hood. The hood has quarter-round molding and a conforming glass door with a veneered frame. The left side of the door has a locking mechanism. There are arched sidelights in the sides of the hood. Flanking the hood are engaged reeded columns with brass capitals and mounts. Opening the door reveals the white enameled dial, which has Roman and Arabic numerals and decorative hour and minute hands. Within the chapter ring is a seconds dial. Winding holes flank a calendar aperture. The dial is inscribed with Cummens's name. Flowers are painted in the spandrels. A pastoral scene with figures is painted within an oval in the lunette.    Cove molding outlines the front and side edges of the trunk where it meets the hood and the base. Engaged, reeded quarter columns with brass capitals and mounts flank three-quarters of the trunk door. The rectangular door is outlined in banding with inverted corners. There is decorative molding around the edges of the door.    The front of the base is outlined in banding with inverted corners. Stepped molding outlines the lower front and side edges of the base. The case rests on ogee bracket feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/17/2018"},{"label":"Basis of Materials","value":"Mahogany identified as primary wood in \"Clocks from the Roxbury Community\" in Antiques (1930)."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Glass; Brass; Paint; Enamel"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on active working years of the maker."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1789 - D:00 M:00 Y:1834"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Cummens was active as a clockmaker in Boston, although he worked primarily in Roxbury as a colleague to Simon Willard and Elnathan Taber."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts; Roxbury, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Inscribed by maker."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Cummens, William Sr., cabinetmaker and clockmaker, 1768-1834, active about 1789-1834"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Long case clock; Grandfather clock; Grandfather's clock; Longcase clock; Tall clock"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Clock"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Household accessories"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Tall case clock"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"10/17/2018"}],"description":"Tall case clock","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Tall case clock","height":1500,"width":360,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":360},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/8147d564-433f-44f4-a9f5-a92338d6e590/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
