The straight, square back is upholstered in a modern cream silk textile decorated with Medieval figures and German text, with fringe trim around the bottom edge. The vertical stiles project out of the upholstery at the top and each is capped with a plume-shaped finial. The front surfaces of the finials are carved with a grooved pattern and painted gold and the backs are unpainted and smooth carved.  The arms attach to the vertical stiles toward the bottom of the upholstered back and they are supported in front by spool-turned stiles above the front legs. The arms have an S-curved profile with a grooved top surface terminating in flared, inward scrolled front ends. Each arm has a relief carved stylized leaf on top of the front end.  The rectangular seat is upholstered over the rails with the same modern textile as the chair back and the internal construction of the seat is hidden by a dust cover on the underside. All four of the bottom edges of the seat are trimmed with fringe.  The chair is supported by four spool and block turned legs with integral ball feet. The legs are continuous with the front and rear vertical stiles and they are joined by spool turned stretchers across the front, rear and sides. The front and rear stretchers are higher than the side stretchers and they run between blocks near the tops of the legs. The side stretchers run between blocks at the bottoms of the front and rear legs, just above the feet.  There are some nail holes and light discoloration on the front and rear stiles near the upholstery, indicating that the original upholstery covered more of the surface."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/29/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"None found."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Maple; Upholstery materials"},{"label":"Style","value":["Elizabethan Revival"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based upon characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1835 - D:00 M:00 Y:1860"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Identified by Brock Jobe as possibly being made in or around Boston due to characteristics of design and construction."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Arm chair; Chair, arm"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Chair"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Seating furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Armchair"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"1/29/2019"}],"description":"Armchair","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Armchair","height":1500,"width":923,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":923},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/7f299d4d-d691-43c5-93f7-dbf1065d4f46/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
