The chair back is square with a pediment on top with a straight profile. The crest rail is yoke-back with squared shoulders. There is an arch at the center with straight sides and cove molding at the bottom and a leaf design on top. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs and made out of one piece of wood. The stiles have an acorn finial on top of the crest rail. They are baluster turned below the crest rail. Between the stiles is an egg-shaped upholstered section in the center surrounded by wood carving with a peak at the top that connects into the crest rail and spreads out at the bottom to connect to rear stiles where it is rectangular. Below this there are two balls at the center which come forward to the side seat rails and then an urn shape before it becomes the leg. There is a carved floral design on the outer edges of the egg shape. Directly surrounding the upholstered section and bottom part is an incised vegetal scroll design. The splat is made out of multiple pieces, especially the more elaborate carved sections.   The compass seat has an unknown composition as it still has its original upholstery components, which are worn from use, and the original springs are missing. There are many nails on the underside of the seat rails, which look original and suggest the existence of a dust cover that kept the springs in place. On the side, between the seat rail and the back stiles is a carved scroll piece with a cove molding at the bottom of the top curve and at the top of the bottom curve. The front rail has two lines of scotia molding in the center with a large flat section in between. The two front legs are turned with a large ring at the top and a small bun at the bottom, with a rectangular section at the top that is mortise and tenoned into its sides by seat rails. The back legs are turned, but with a back leg sabre profile.
