The top of the upper section features an intricate cornice comprised of a central piece, with an ovolo profile crowned by a fretted pediment and a spear finial on a plinth, fenced by crosshatching and spear finials on plinths at the front two corners. The molded top edge yields to a squared upper case framed in double-string inlay, the inner string with concave corners. The bell-shaped window displays a clock face with Roman and Arabic numerals, minute and hour hands, and the maker?ÇÖs inscription, which reads: [D. Monroe / Boston].    Cove molding separates the upper and lower sections. The lower section is framed in double-sting inlay, the inner string with concave corners. Stepped molding forms the base, which at center is a rounded drop flanked by a series of concave and convex curves. The clock rests on French feet.
