(59.1 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Chippendale, slant-front desk constructed of mahogany, brass, and white pine. Case top is made of one board and attached with dovetails. The front, overhanging edge is chamfered. The case sides are each made of one board with squared, front edges. Oxbow case front has a fall-front door and four drawers. The fall front door is panel construction with bread board ends and an integral, quarter-round molding. When open, the door rests on lopers that have brass knobs. The interior of the desk includes a central prospect unit with two drawers at the top flanked by two vertical drawers. The central unit is flanked by three drawers and four pigeon holes on each side. Below the fall-front door there are four graduated drawers with solid fronts. The drawers?ÇÖ sides are full height and each has an applied running strip. The drawer bottoms are made of one horizontal board that is chamfered on the sides and the front. The bottom is let into grooves in the front and sides, and then nailed to the underside of the back. The drawers rest on their original runners. The case back is constructed of three, horizontal boards that are connected with lap joints and nails. The case bottom is made of one board and attached with glue blocks. An applied, ogee base molding is nailed to the front and sides of the case. The ogee bracket feet are attached with glue bocks. There is a crack running horizontally from the left front side of the door to the center of the door. There are breaks on both back feet.
