The case top is in three sections: two small, square sections flank a large center rectangle. The center section is higher than the flanking sections. The boards of the top are attached with glue blocks. The front and side edges of the case top sections have integral bevel and ogee molding and overhang the case. The case sides are panel-framed with applied ebony molding. The recessed, flanking sections of the case front have carved and ebonized panels with gold inlay and shield and floral designs on burled veneer and solid wood. Pilasters flank the projecting center of the case. Each pilaster has an ionic top with round carving below, shield inlay, ebonized double quarter columns flanking burled maple veneer, and ogee shaping at the bottom. Between the pilasters, just below the top of the center section, is a row of projecting, ogee-shaped blocks. Below is a rectangular tablet with floral marquetry with a bellflower in the center flanked by two shield-shaped carvings with gold-colored decoration. Below is a rectangular, panel-framed door with applied ebony molding, circular carvings at the corners, and a large central tablet with marquetry depicting a vase of flowers. The marquetry uses more than five types of wood. The hinged door opens to reveal a single, fixed shelf. The lower front and side edges of the case have stepped molding.
