The chair has an arched crest rail with molded ears and a triangular finger hold. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs. The pierced splat has two diamond-shaped openings and is tenoned into a shoe nailed to the rear seat rail. There is a large gap between the edge of the shoe mortise and the splat.    The trapezoidal seat has replaced over-the-rail upholstery with brass tacks. Institutional records indicate that the original upholstery was yellow.    Side and rear stretchers are assembled in a box pattern with the front and rear stretchers above the side stretchers. The tops of the stretchers are molded. The front legs are square with a bead cut into the outside corner. The rear legs are square and canted outward. The legs are attached to the stretchers with mortise and tenon joints.
