A cove and ogee-molded broken-scroll pediment terminating in carved and gilt rosettes surmounts the hood. Two urn-and-spire finials are on the front corners and a third is at center mounted to a curved plinth. In the tympanum is carved, blind fretwork. On the sides are rectangular sidelights. Free-standing fluted and gilt columns are at the front corners and at the back corners are smooth, free-standing turned and gilt columns. A glazed door with a veneered frame and an astragal top opens to reveal an engraved dial with Roman numerals indicating hours and Arabic numerals indicating minutes and pierced hands to indicate time. In the spandrels and lunette are engraved c-scrolls. A silver boss in the lunette is engraved: [Gawen Brown / BOSTON / 1766]. Inside the chapter ring is an engraved seconds dial, an engraved calendar dial, and engraved c-scroll ornament.  The waist has cove and ogee moldings at the top. The hinged door is carved with ogee curves at the top and bead molding around the edges. A keyhole is on the left side. Flanking the door are gilded and fluted quarter columns with brass mounts.  The base had cove and ovolo moldings at the top, an applied panel of veneer with molded edges.
