Surmounting the cornice is a pediment consisting of two dragon-like creatures flanking a shield and an emblematic figure wearing some type of headpiece. The figures in the pediment are embellished with foliate curves. The top molding is beveled and quarter-round with palm-and-reel carvings on the front and sides. The baseboard below the top molding features a frieze with a central carving of a face enveloped by foliate curvature. The carving is flanked by applied studs for decoration. The shelf just below the frieze has three slanted edges and it supported by baluster- and vase-turned posts. The backboard under the shelf is mirrored in three sections.  The top of the lower section has an overhanging surface and three slanted edges with decorative molding. The frieze below the molding has carved decoration matching the frieze of the upper section but on a smaller scale. The bottom trim of the frieze has angled molding. The central prospect unit projects forward while the flanking double stacked shelves are recessed. The outer corners of the lower case are freestanding columns, twisted with block, ball, ring, and spool turnings. The doors of the central prospect unit have woodcut panels at center framed by bolection molding. The doors have a keyhole and are flanked by studded front-facing panels matching the upper section. An applied strip of molding separates the doors of the central prospect unit from the bottom section, which has an arch with decorated spandrels and a bottom shelf. The molding along the bottom trim has decorated carving. The case stands on six compressed bun feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Stamped in ink on the inside of a drawer: [FROM / BANCROFT & DYER'S / FURNITURE WAREHOUSE / 180 TREMONT ST / BOSTON]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Unidentified wood; Glass"},{"label":"Style","value":["Renaissance Revival"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date range based on active working dates of maker."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1875 - D:00 M:00 Y:1888"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by stamp."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Stamped by maker."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Dyer, George Burton, cabinetmaker, 1844-1913, active about 1871-about 1893","Bancroft & Dyer, cabinetmaker, manufacturer, and dealer, 1877-1888","Bancroft, Charles P., cabinetmaker, 1810-1897, active in Boston about 1848-1888"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Serving board; Side board; Buffet"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Sideboard"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Case furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Sideboard"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/20/2018"}],"description":"Sideboard","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Sideboard","height":1500,"width":1084,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":1084},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/6e59631e-9350-4542-9a8b-e1cff238600f/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
