(55.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Federal-style game table made of mahogany with maple inlay and white pine secondary wood. The tabletop is composed of a single rectangular board with overhanging edges at all sides and a square eight-by-eight chessboard inlaid at the center. The dark chess spaces are mahogany and the light spaces are maple. The board is surrounded with light maple stringing. The tabletop was originally attached to the frame with screws in screw pockets, but the screws have since been removed and the pockets are secured with glue. The rectangular frame is mortise and tenoned to therm legs. Both sides have a solid mahogany skirt. The table holds drawers at the front and back with solid mahogany fronts and white pine construction, attached with half blind dovetails at the front and full dovetails at the back. The drawer fronts have bail pulls that are likely replaced due to screw holes and shadows present behind them and the irregular attachment of ovular pull supports (one is vertical while the other is horizontal). The drawer bottoms are composed of one board with grain running from side to side and chamfering at the sides and back. The drawer bottom is let into grooves at the sides and front and nailed to the underside of the back. The drawers rest on likely original runners, each comprised of two boards nailed into the skirt. A block is nailed between the drawer backs to prevent them from colliding.
