There is little evidence that Elisha Tucker and Asa Griffin were ever partners, save for a few surviving labels. Both were engaged in cabinet-making and maintained their own shops, but a survey of the Boston directories from 1809 to 1830 does not yield definitive evidence of a partnership. The Boston Directories also list a Lyman Tucker, Jr., a turner, living and working in Boston around the same time as Elisha Tucker and Griffin, however, there is no evidence to suggest a partnership between Lyman Tucker and Griffin, nor is there evidence for an association between Elisha and Lyman Tucker."},{"label":"Subjects (AAT)","value":["Tambour desks"]},{"label":"Subjects","value":["Tambour desks"]},{"label":"Bibliography","value":"Advertisement: \"Shreve, Crump, & Low, Inc.\" Antiques 123, no. 2 (February 1983): back cover."},{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Height 49 in. The upper case consists of two drawers at the top, two tambour doors, and a central prospect unit. The top of the upper section is an overhanging board. The top drawers are veneered and bordered in stringing and dark wood veneer. Each drawer has two engraved knobs. Between the two drawers is a horizontal panel of decorative veneer, a rectangle of dark wood veneer with an inner, medium brown veneered, chamfered rectangle. The hinged, central prospect unit is outlined in decorative banding and dark wood veneer. Within the border, the door is a vertical rectangle of lightwood veneer with an inner, darker wood veneered, chamfered rectangle. A kite-shaped keyhole surround is on the left side. The central prospect door is flanked by tambour doors, each with one small knob. The right tambour door opens to reveal two drawers, each with two small knobs, above three pigeonholes. There is not photographic evidence, but the left tambour compartment likely also opens to reveal two drawers and three pigeonholes. On either side of the tambour doors are medium brown veneered panels outlined in dark wood veneer and stringing. The upper section has decorative molding around the base. The lower section consists of a hinged, folding writing surface, four drawers, and four bracket feet. The surface of the folding lid is veneered in lightwood and outlined in dark wood veneer and banding. The writing lid opens to rest on two lopers, each with one knob. The top drawer is set within the lopers. The other three drawers appear to be the same width and height. All four drawers have two, engraved knobs each and one keyhole at top center. Below the drawers and above the feet, a line of decorative banding hems the bottom and sides of the lower section. The front and side skirts are cyma curved and spurred. The desk has bracket feet."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/19/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Labeled on back: [Tucker and Griffin / 14 Middle Street / Boston]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Unidentified wood"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Dated by last known owner, Shreve, Crump, and Low, Inc., as c. 1810, 1983.
