The upper case has a broken triangular pediment with wide molding along the upper edges. An urn and corkscrew finial sits on a plinth that rises from the center front of the pediment; the finial is replaced. Below the pediment is a cornice with dentil molding. The case has paneled, recessed doors. The inner edges of the door's frame elements are serpentine with a deep bevel. The doors have brass keyhole surrounds. The front vertical edges of the bookcase have fluted pilasters. Two sliding candlestands extend from beneath the center of each door. Each candlestand is fitted with a single brass knob.  The lower case has a fall lid that opens up into a flat surface on which to write. Although not pictured, notes indicate that the desk interior has a central prospect unit including document drawers with applied half turnings with urn and corkscrew finials. Below the desk surface, the case is blockfront with curved upper corners. The case has four graduated drawers. The uppermost drawer is flanked by lopers, each of which has a single knob. The drawers each have a shaped escutcheon and two bail pulls with back plates of the same design as the escutcheons. The drawer openings have bead molding along the edges. There is complex molding along the side and front lower edges of the case that follows the profile of the blocking.
