(61 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany, mahogany veneer, and bird?ÇÖs eye maple veneer Federal-style armchair. The chair back is square with a flat angled profile. The tablet is straight with squared shoulders terminating in an integral scrolled element at the back. The tablet is decorated with two adjacent rectangles of lightwood stringing with concave interior edges. These edges form a border surrounding an oval of dark wood inlay encircled by lightwood stringing. Inside the oval, an additional lightwood oval is split into 12 sections with concave outer edges. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs and composed of single pieces of wood. The chair is upholstered with a striped red and white silken textile between the stiles, on the seat, around the back, and below the arms. The arms extend from just below the tablet, their top faces decorated with rectangles of lightwood stringing. They curve and attach to turned vertical rails dominated by vase shapes flanked with decorative rings. At the edge of the upholstery behind the vertical turned boards, an additional vertical strip supports the arms. These strips are also decorated with rectangles of lightwood stringing. The seat is rectangular and framed, the construction method obscured by upholstery. The upholstery is replaced, evinced by nail holes from previous upholstery visible under the front seat rail. The upholstery is nailed at the edges with strips of ribbon and ripped at the front of the seat. The front face of the front seat rail is decorated with an inlay design identical to the tablet. The chair has two turned therm legs at the front decorated with reeding and two thick sabre legs at the back. The front legs appear to be mortise and tenoned to the seat rails. The front face of the front legs, where they attach to the seat rail, is decorated with bird?ÇÖs eye maple veneer surrounded by mahogany banding and lightwood stringing.
