(59.1 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Federal-style sideboard constructed of mahogany, mahogany veneer, white pine, and an unidentified light wood inlay. Case top is one board that is attached with screws set in screw pockets with as well as glue blocks. The case sides are made of two boards each with squared front edges. The case front has two doors and five drawers. The doors are placed on either side of the central drawers and are part of the curved corners. The doors are constructed with five vertical boards with butt joints in between and one horizontal board on the bottom and the top. The door fronts have vertical veneer and an applied bead molding. There is decorative light wood stringing with quarter circles in each corner. The top, bottom, and front sides of the doors are veneered as well. The interior of each door is an unfinished shelf. Three of the drawers are in the center of the front with one drawer on top of each door on the sides. The side drawers have the same curved profile as the corners and the doors. All of the drawers have vertical veneer with an applied bead molding and decorative light wood stringing with quarter circles in each corner. The drawer sides are full height and the drawer backs are planed. The drawer bottoms are made of one horizontal board that is chamfered on the sides and front. The bottoms are let into grooves at the fronts and sides and are nailed to the undersides of the bottoms. The drawers are reinforced with glue blocks. The drawers rest on runners that are nailed to the sides; some runners have been replaced. There are drawer stops glued to the back boards. The front and sides of the case have a skirt at the bottom. The front skirt is arched, while the sides have a serpentine curve. Both skirts are veneered with light wood stringing. The case bottom consists of one board each on the side sections. These boards are attached with glue blocks, some of which have been reinforced with nails, as well as metal brackets with screws. The tapering therm legs extend the length of the case. They are attached with nails and mortise and tenon joints. The legs are veneered with light wood stringing on the front of the legs that comes to an arch at the top of the legs. There are nails at the tops of the arches of the light wood stringing on the legs. The sections of the legs that are within the frame of the case also have this arched, light wood stringing. The legs terminate in a spade foot. Catalogers were unable to examine the back of the case, so full construction details are unavailable.
