The square back is moderately curved in profile. The crest rail features a trapezoidal cartouche that is veneered with figured mahogany. The rounded ears of the crest rail are carved in low relief flattened spirals. The volutes of the carved swag of the lower splat terminate in stylized papyrus flowers. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs and are molded along the front edge above the seat rail.    The replaced slip seat is fully upholstered and is secured to the front and rear seat rails with dowel; likely a modern intervention. A molding with a bead on the upper and lower edges is nailed to the front of the seat rail. The tops of the side seat rails are molded to match the rear stiles.    The two front sabre legs have molding on the fronts to match the molding of the rear stiles and the side seat rails; the two rear legs are square and canted outward. The front and rear legs are attached to the seat rails with mortise and tenon joints.
