The top of the hood has a continuous arched pediment surmounted by a fretted cornice. The front of the hood has a framed glass dial door that conforms to the rounded arch shape of the pediment. Two freestanding columns and capitals flank the dial door. Decorative molding surrounds the front and sides of the top and base of the hood. The lunette above the metal dial features a painted floral design. Roman and Arabic numerals denote time via the clock face dial. In addition to the hour and minute hands, there is a small time-circle with Arabic numerals to track seconds. An arched display window, which is flanked by winding holes, tracks calendar days. Four corner spandrels outside the time circle are decorated with painted floral designs.  Cavetto molding surmounts the front and sides at the top of the trunk, just below the hood. Flanked by quarter columns at the front edges, the trunk is molded, veneered, and framed in string inlay. Within the outer frame of inlay is an inlaid rectangle with inverted corners. The trunk door is attached with two hinges.  Cavetto molding surrounds the top of the trunk base. The front surface of the base section is framed in double string inlay within which is an inlaid rectangle with inverted corners. The bottom of the base has a shaped skirt and bracket feet.  There may have been finials attached to the cornice at one point in the object's lifetime."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Unidentified metal; Glass"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date uncertain but range is based on characteristics of design and construction as well as approximate working dates of maker."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1800 - D:00 M:00 Y:1850"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Taber was a clockmaker active in Roxbury, Massachusetts from about 1789-1854."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Roxbury, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Inscribed by maker, according to Rosenbach Co., 1926."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Taber, Elnathan, clockmaker, 1768-1854, active 1789-1854"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Long case clock; Grandfather clock; Grandfather's clock; Longcase clock; Tall clock"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Clock"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Household accessories"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Tall case clock"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/20/2018"}],"description":"Tall case clock","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Tall case clock","height":1500,"width":470,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":470},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/628e419a-78fb-4b41-8e36-3970f3a2f349/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
