The rectangular chair back, its smooth, horizontal tablet, and horizontal slat are curved. The tablet is set into notches cut at the tops of the rear stiles, which are continuous with the back legs. The tablet and corresponding rectangular slat are veneered with figured mahogany. Just below the tablet, the stiles diverge into spiraled arms, which are attached to the seat frame at their lowest point with screws in pockets. The twisting arms terminate in a central circular element with a carving of five concentric circles on both the interior and exterior sides. A consistent front-facing molding begins at the stiles and arms, extends onto the tops of the side and front seat rails, and continues down the front of the front legs. The molding has a half-round profile with bead moldings on either side. The curved side seat rails and straight front and back seat rails are attached with mortise and tenon joinery to the rear stiles and front legs. The front and back seat rails are faced with thin mahogany strips and have screw holes at the center, currently filled with modern screws, suggesting that the trapezoidal slip seat may once have been attached. There are also seven corresponding vertical wear marks on the front and back seat rails. The chair appears to retain its original white pine seat frame, horsehair padding, and under upholstery, which are preserved with a thin layer of gauze. A layer of white fabric is visible underneath the black outer upholstery. The sabre legs have prominent knees with a pronounced curve at the front, imitating the shape of the arms and rear stiles.
