Lower case: The top of the case is made up of two boards: a plain pine board is inset below the upper case and joined to the finished top board with a spline joint. The top boards are nailed to rails that are dovetailed to the case sides. The top has square edges that overhang the case slightly at the front and sides. A quarter round molding is nailed to the top surrounding the plain pine board and acting as a base molding for the upper case. The sides of the case are single boards with squared front edges. The case back is divided by a central stile separating two panels with rough pit sawing marks on the interior faces. The grain of the panels is oriented vertically. The panels are chamfered on the exterior edges at the top and sides and let into a rabbet cut into the top and side boards, and let into rabbet in the central stile. The panels and central stile are nailed into the bottom board. The case bottom is a single board attached with blue blocks to the case sides.  The case has a frieze that projects above the full width drawers. The frieze is supported at the corners by tapering, three-quarter Doric columns that are ring turned at capital and base. The column shafts are veneered.  The front and rear legs of the case are baluster-turned bulbs. The front legs are continuous with the columns. The back legs are joined to blocks with a mortise and tenon joint; the blocks are nailed to the case bottom. The front legs are reinforced at the back by glue blocks and screws. The legs rest upon integral bun feet.  The lower drawer fronts are faced with book matched figured mahogany veneer and have an applied bead molding around the edges. The drawer sides are full height and are attached to the front and back with hand-cut dovetails. The drawer bottoms are a single board with grain running side to side and chamfering on the exterior at the front and sides. The drawer bottoms are let into grooves at the front and sides, and nailed to the underside of the back. The drawers are reinforced by glue blocks. The backs and bottoms show evidence of pit- or frame-sawing on the exterior faces.  The upper two drawers rest on runners; the bottom drawer rests on the case bottom. The original runners are glued into grooves in the case side and supported by glue blocks. Stop blocks are glued to the back of the case at the runners. The top front rail is dovetailed to the sides and nailed to the case top; three dividers are glued into rabbets in the case side and supported by glue blocks. There is a single vertical partition separating the upper drawers that extends into the case and is nailed from below to the top drawer divider and to a horizontal rail that extends from the drawer divider to fit into a mortise cut into the stile in the back. The drawer dividers, upper and lower rails, and partition are all faced with thick mahogany veneer.    Upper case: The upper case of drawers is 4.625 inches high and 40.25 inches wide with a depth of 10.75 inches. The top is a single board with a beveled molding glued to the front and sides. The case sides are single boards with square edges, veneered on the face and at the front edge. The case back is a single board, nailed to the case bottom and into a rabbet at the top. The case bottom is a single board nailed into rabbets at the case sides and nailed to the drawer partitions. The drawer fronts of the upper case drawers are solid mahogany with an applied bead molding around the edges. The drawer sides are full height attached to the front and back with hand cut dovetails. The drawer bottoms are single boards with grain oriented side to side and chamfering on the exterior faces at the front and sides. The drawer bottoms are let into grooves at the drawer front and sides and nailed to the underside of the back. The drawers of the upper case rest on the upper case bottom. Stop blocks are glued to the interior of the case bottom behind the drawer fronts. Two drawer dividers are veneered and nailed in place to separate the upper case into three drawer boxes. The front edges of the top, sides and bottom are veneered.    All of the drawers in the upper and lower case have locks. Drawer fronts have brass keyhole surrounds. Drawer knobs are turned wood, likely original.    There are significant losses to the veneer on the lower case drawer dividers. Portions of the molding attached to the lower case top and surrounding the upper case bottom are missing or loose. Portions of the upper case molding at the top edge are missing. One of the turned pulls is missing from the upper case, right drawer. In pencil on the back of the top full width drawer, [3].
