The table top has one fixed leaf and one leaf, which, when open, form a circular top. The top overhangs the apron. The edge of the hinged leaf is inlaid with light wood in a pattern of alternating circles and lozenges. The apron is segmented into three sections by the slightly projecting tops of the four therm legs. Each of the three sections is veneered with highly figured wood and inlaid in the center with three swags divided by four tassels. Light wood stringing outlines the top and bottom edges of each of the sections. The lower edge of the apron is outlined in dark wood banding flanked with light wood stringing; this pattern continues across the fronts of the legs. Above the banding, the tops of the legs are inlaid with three graduated lozenges in light wood. The fronts of the two front legs are inlaid with light wood bellflowers and outlined with light wood stringing. The two rear legs are outlined win light wood stringing. Each of the four therm legs has banding around the cuff."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/31/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Printed, paper label underside of table top: [Thomas Foster / Cabinet-Maker, / BSOTON.] [sic]."},{"label":"Basis of Materials","value":"Mahogany, mahogany veneer, and satinwood identified as primary wood and white pine, maple, and satinwood as the secondary wood according to Dr. Hewitt (1974)."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; White pine; Maple; Satinwood"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Approximate date of 1790 provided by Nutting (1928).
