The hood has a cove- and ovolo-molded sarcophagus pediment with a central urn-and-flame finial and two ball-and-spire finials on block plinths at the front corners. The base of the pediment has ovolo and cavetto molding and a strip of thin torus molding and an undecorated frieze. Above the glazed glass door is a molded arch. The front and back corners have smooth, free-standing turned columns with brass capitals. The door (which has a shaped escutcheon and keyhole on the left side) opens to reveal a twelve-inch brass composite dial with applied silvered chapter ring, Roman numerals indicating hours, and Arabic numerals indicating minutes. The spandrels are decorated with applied cast ornament and in the lunette, is a moon phase dial. Inside the chapter ring is a seconds dial, a calendar aperture, and a recessed nameplate engraved: [Gawen Brown / Brattle St / BOSTON]. Ovolo and cavetto molding outlines the top of the waist. The trunk door has an astragal top. It is hinged and has a shaped escutcheon and keyhole on the left side. The base has decorative molding around the top, stepped molding at the bottom, and a central pendant drop. The short bracket feet have likely been cut down. The works inside the case include an alarm five-pillar movement with rack and snail a wooden pendulum rod with brass-faced bob, all powered by two iron weights. According to the Skinner Auction Catalog, as of 2009, there has been no significant repairs or restoration."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Engraved nameplate on dial: [Gawen Brown / Brattle St / BOSTON]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Walnut; Brass; Iron; Glass; Gilding; Paint"},{"label":"Style","value":["Queen Anne"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Approximate date of 1760 provided by Robert W.
