The writing surface when closed features alternating raised and depressed surfaces, and at the top is a bat-wing escutcheon. Set within the lopers is a drawer stunted in height compared to the bottom three drawers. Each drawer has two bat-wing bail pulls and a central bat-wing escutcheon. On the sides of the case are bail pull handles. The case bottom is trimmed in decorative molding. Central along the bottom trim is a carved seashell.
