The bed frame and headboard are made of an unidentified porous wood with a red wash. The bed frame is constructed with large pegs in pockets that are visible on the side and front faces of each leg. They are covered with circular brass mounts. The interior bottom edge of all four frame boards is chamfered. Two hooks have been affixed to the bottom of each frame board to hold a decorative skirt on rods. The rod edges have caused damage to the legs and frame of the bed. The bedding surface appears to be original or an early replacement. It is comprised of cloth panels nailed to the top of the frame and assembled with interwoven rope. Four seemingly later pine boards have been glued to run across the frame above the bedding surface as a protective measure. All other upholstery components have been replaced. The headboard has concave short sides and is mortise and tenoned to the posts at each corner. It is set into a groove in the frame. The high round posts are continuous with the legs. The turned foot posts are dominated by an outward tapering gadrooned cylinder with an urn-shape below, each flanked by decorative rings. The head posts are nearly identical, with a smooth surface replacing the gadrooning. All posts end in wide spike finials. The posts are pegged into a curved tester. The long sides are composed of two bentwood pieces connected by a central hinge. Nail holes in the front and rear horizontal tester boards evince original bed hangings. The bed has subtle therm legs and the front legs terminate in integral spade feet.
