The chair back has an underlying rectangular shape, with curved shoulders and a yoke-back crest rail. The crest rail is joined to the rear stiles by mortise and tenon, reinforced with pegs or dowels. The chair back has a curved profile. The splat is vasiform and chamfered to a rounded edge on the back. It is mortise and tenoned to the crest rail at the top and to a horizontal, squared off rail at the bottom. This rail is attached by mortise and tenon to the rear stiles. The rear stiles are continuous with the back legs of the chair. The back corners are chamfered, ending with a lamb?ÇÖs tongue level with the bottom of the splat. The seat of the chair is trapezoidal. The seat rails are concealed by the rush seat; the rush has been replaced. There are chamfered, diamond shaped corner blocks at the front corners, into which the front legs attach with round mortise and tenons reinforced from the top. The front legs are baluster turned, with continuous roughly carved Spanish feet. The back legs are stump legs, continuous with the rear stiles of the chair, with continuous block feet with chamfered corners. There are metal furniture slides on the underside of the back feet. The piece has four stretchers, with the front stretcher placed highest. The front stretcher has decorative ball and ring turnings. The side stretchers are also decoratively turned, and are placed the lowest. The rear stretcher is slightly higher than the side stretchers and is turned but plain. The right stretcher may have been replaced; the grain is more defined than on other components of the chair, and the turning is more angular than the left and front stretchers. The chair has clearly been refinished; the thick varnish has been applied over the wear on the front stretcher. The feet and legs also show signs of wear. The chair is otherwise in good condition."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/19/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"None found."},{"label":"Basis of Materials","value":"The wood has been highly varnished, making identification difficult.
