(61 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Pedestal-base side chair constructed of maple, white oak, and a metal base. Trapezoidal back with a curved profile and a tablet crest rail. The rear stiles are attached to the seat with circular through tenons and to the crest rail with a glued lap joint. The tenon of the stile is flared at the joint. Rear stiles are spindles that are cut to accommodate the tablet crest rail. The solid splat is tapered from bottom to top, squared at the bottom edge, and has two demi-lune cutouts near the top and bottom of each side. The splat is mortise and tenoned to the crest rail and trapezoidal plank seat. A spline of wood in the back curve of the seat is used to stabilize the wood at the point of the joinery. The seat sits on a metal pedestal. At the top end of the pedestal, the metal flares out and opens up to four points that are screwed to the bottom of the seat. At the other end, the trumpet-shaped pedestal flares out and is screwed to the base board.
