Crowning the drum head is an acorn finial mounted to a plinth. The circular head has a hinged glass door and a brass bezel which opens by a latch. The dial has Roman numerals and hands with arrow tips and a winding hole. Inscribed on the dial is the maker's name.    The throat has a trapezoidal reverse-painted glass panel framed with gilded rope molding. The molding is connected to small wooden blocks at the front corners of the throat. The panel is painted with a female figure surrounded by classical motifs. Below the figure on a banner is inscribed: [PATENT]. Sidearms flank the throat.    The pendulum box has a rectangular reverse-painted glass panel framed with gilded rope molding. The molding is connected to small wooden blocks at the front corners of the pendulum box. The panel is painted with a white outer border, an inner acanthus leaf border, and a central scene of the Pennsylvania State Capitol of Pennsylvania, built in 1812.
