(170.8 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany and mahogany veneer Federal-style multi-part table composed of a rectangular drop-leaf table and two demi-lune tables. White pine is used as a secondary wood.  The demi-lune tabletops are each made of a single board. The fixed rectangular top of the drop leaf table is composed of two boards and attached to a single-board rectangular leaf on either side with surface-mounted hinges. The fixed board is significantly warped. Integral molding with a cove and quarter-round profile is present on either long side of both leaves. It fits into corresponding integral quarter-round and cove molding on the long edges of the fixed tabletop and at the back edge of both demi-lune tables. Brass fastening devices are screwed onto the underside of the fixed tabletop, the leaves, and the overhanging side edges of the demi-lune tables, all facing outward. Each fixed component is attached to the frame with glue blocks and screws in pockets. Many of the original screws have been removed and replaced with new smaller pockets next to the original pockets. Additional screws have also been added.  The curved frame of each demi-lune table is built from laminated solid wood with a chamfered interior edge, and it is veneered on the outside with double rows of light wood stringing along the bottom edge. The four legs of each demi-lune table extend through the curved frame to the tabletop and project slightly beyond the plane of the frame. The back boards of the demi-lune frames are attached to the sides with blind dovetails. The board back of one of the demi-lune tables appears to be original while the other may be replaced. The original board has glue remnants and a rectangular repair with four nails on the exterior. The replaced board has a tenon in the same position.  The frame of the drop-leaf table is assembled with dovetails at the corners and has three interior rails attached to the sides with single dovetails. The short sides of the table are veneered on the outside with double rows of light wood stringing along the bottom edge. Each of the two outer rails is made of two boards, segmented by a fixed leg that is mortise and tenoned to the rail and reinforced with screws. The drop-leaf table has four gate legs on either long side that move with knuckle joints attached to the interior frame. When the table is closed, the gate legs project slightly beyond the plane of the frame. One of the gate legs has a large tenon at the top. The underside of drop leaf has a series of nail holes arranged in a semicircle at each corner suggesting that the table may have once been fixed open.  All of the legs are square tapered therm legs with horizontal double rows of light wood stringing in line with the stringing on the table frames. All of the legs are mortise and tenoned to the frames. The two front legs on the demi-lune tables are reinforced with brackets and screws.
