(54.3 cm), Depth 10.25 in. (26 cm)"},{"label":"Description","value":"Mahogany, Chippendale-style tall case clock. The hood?ÇÖs gallery extends the full depth of the clock. The pediment is broken; it is cut into a curving, triangular shape squared at the edges and at the highest point. It is constructed with pinned mortise and tenon joints. The pediment is ornamented with carved, foliate lattice work set against a painted, gold field. The gallery is surmounted by three ball-and-spire finials. On either side of the dial are free-standing, fluted columns with brass capitals. Cove molding is applied with nails to the top and bottom edges of the front of the hood, extending along the sides. The dial door is arched, and has a door lock. The sides of the hood are paneled with glass, allowing the viewer to observe the dial movement.  Cove molding is applied to the top, bottom, and side edges of the trunk. There are fluted quarter columns, with brass capitals, applied on either side of the trunk door. The front edges of the trunk are squared; the top profile of the door is arched. Beveled molding, applied with glue, overlaps the edges of the door front. Shadows on the inside of the door indicate where the original hardware is missing, or has been replaced. The trunk is constructed with glue blocks. Beveled molding is applied to edges of the bottom board, on the front and sides of the base. An applied, beveled molding outlines a panel of mahogany veneer on the facing surface of the base. On either side of the molded frame, there are fluted quarter columns with brass capitals. The clock has four ogee bracket feet; the rear feet are nailed to the base. The backboard is continuous from hood to base, and constructed from two, vertically oriented boards, attached with glue blocks.  The movement is present. It is made from an unknown metal and has a striking mechanism. The arched dial is constructed with unknown metal and painted wood. Hands count minutes and hours; hours are marked with Roman numerals, minutes with Arabic numerals. There are two winding holes. Brass decorations, depicting dragons and scrolling leaves, are applied to wood, painted gold, around the dial. Above the dial, an inset engraved disc records the maker and place of origin. Within the clock face, between the center and chapter XII, a smaller, inset dial with one hand counts seconds, marked with Arabic numerals. Between the center and chapter VI, a small, square cut out reveals another dial marking the days of the month. Within the trunk, there are two pulleys, two weights, and a pendulum. There are holes in the back of the case, suggesting that some of the original interior fittings are absent.
