The bentwood back is tenoned through the seat on each side. Eight spindles are tenoned through the top of the bentwood back. The shaped saddle seat has an inscribed line that outlines the perimeter of the spindles. Legs do not extend through the seat. The stretchers are assembled in an H-shape. The back spindles, legs, and stretchers are bamboo-turned. The chair is painted white with gilding on the notches of the bamboo turnings on the legs and back spindles. A wide strip of paint has been removed from the underside of the seat to reveal [T.C.HAYWARD] mark.    Loss of wood on the outside of the front right leg.
