The upper case is fitted with glass-front cabinet doors, below which are three small drawers. A fall-front writing surface is atop the bottom case. The bottom case consists of two lopers and three drawers. The case top is surmounted with a continuous pediment set above the beveled molding along the front edge. The pediment consists of three rectangular, flat-top plinths, one at both corners and one at center front, connected by carved wood sloping from the middle plinth and rising back up to the corner plinths. The doors of the upper case are panel framed with inset diamond paned glass windows. The right door has a thin, brass keyhole surround. Inside the bookcase are shelves. Below the bookcase doors are three drawers in a row affixed with brass knobs. Beveled molding outlines the area on which the upper case sits. The desk's writing surface is attached to the bottom case with two hinges. The bottom case has two lopers for which the hinged leaf to rest, and three drawers. The top drawer between the lopers is not at full width like the other two drawers, which are of equal size. Each drawer is fitted with two brass knobs and thin brass keyhole surrounds. The case skirt along the front is cyma curved, and the case sits on four baluster turned legs, with ring turning, which taper in to cylindrical feet. The piece has been refinished, with new brass and four new glass panes. The owner notes that the piece never had finials."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"10/3/2017"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Handwritten paper label inside of bookcase on right: [Syvanus Sampson Senior]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany"},{"label":"Style","value":["Federal"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date based on original bill of sale included with the desk and bookcase."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1817"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"N.
