The side stiles and crest form distinct ears, which are grooved and present an illusion of ribbon-like curvature. The crest peaks at center with geometric cutouts that move into the splat, which is pierced with Gothic tracery, carved scrolls with applied shark-tooth molding, and an applied leaf pendant at center.    The framed, trapezoidal seat retains its original web, linen, stuffing, and upholstery underneath twentieth-century red and white checkered upholstery. Quarter-round brackets decorate the front spandrels under the seal rail. Each fretwork bracket is nailed with two forged finishing nails. The seat never had corner blocks. Two of the four Marlborough legs are nailed to the seat frame at the front corners. The rear legs are continuous with the stiles and canted back. Three stretchers brace the legs and form an h-shape."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Maple; Unidentified textile"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Date of 1770 provided by Brock Jobe and Myrna Kaye, in New England Furniture, the Colonial Era (1984), pg. 411-2, no. 123."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1760 - D:00 M:00 Y:1780"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"George Bright was active in Boston as a cabinetmaker in the mid-to-late eighteenth century."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Bill of sale dated August 8, 1770 identifies Bright as the maker."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Bright, George, cabinetmaker, 1726-1805, active about 1750-1800"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Occasional chair"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Chair"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Seating furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Side chair"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/20/2018"}],"description":"Side chair","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Side chair","height":1500,"width":985,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":985},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/445a3ea6-d374-4627-b70f-9330c0d82cc5/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
