The hood has a cove molded arched pediment with a fretted gallery and three gilded wood urn-and-spire finials mounted to plinths. On the tympanum and along the arch is a carved, gilded, and red-painted eglomise. At the front corners are fluted colonnettes flanking a glazed door with an arched opening and a keyhole. The door opens to reveal an engraved brass dial with a strike-silent mechanism, calendar aperture, a seconds dial, and winding holes, and applied cast decoration in the spandrels and lunette. The dial denotes time via Roman numerals with hour and minute hands. Inscribed on the clock face is: [Ino Roulston, Boston].  Cove molding decorates the top of the waist. The case is fixed with a reverse blocked case door with an arched top, an arched glazed oculus, and concave bottom corners. The molded base supports bracket feet. There is a single shaped pendant at the center of the baseboard.  Case has been painted black and appears to be nineteenth-century or later. Clock has had some minor repairs and the feet have been reduced in height."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Inscribed on dial: [Ino Roulstone, Boston]."},{"label":"Materials","value":"White pine; Gilding; Brass; Paint"},{"label":"Style","value":["Queen Anne"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Approximate date of 1760 provided by Sotheby's, 1992, likely based on characteristics of design as well as active working dates of maker, who is listed in Boston Directories from 1760-1803."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1750 - D:00 M:00 Y:1770"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"Boston indicated by inscription."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Inscribed by maker."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Roulstone, John, clockmaker, active about 1760-about 1803"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Long case clock; Grandfather clock; Grandfather's clock; Longcase clock; Tall clock"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Clock"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Household accessories"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Tall case clock"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"7/20/2018"}],"description":"Tall case clock","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Tall case clock","height":1500,"width":318,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":318},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/40fbe5c3-924d-4015-97d1-552fd5c21d30/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
