The single board top overhangs the case along the front and sides and has applied half-round molding along those edges. The top is attached with screws on the interior of the case and three applied strips of wood are glued front-to-back on the underside. The case sides are panel framed with four boards around a recessed center panel. The boards are poplar with mahogany veneer. The case back is constructed with three horizontal pine boards nailed to the case sides and the case bottom is a single pine board attached with glue blocks.  The case front has three graduated drawers below a projecting top drawer. Rectangular acanthus leaf carvings are applied to the right and left top corners of the case front. Two free-standing rope-twist columns span the front edges of the case and attach to blocks at the top and bottom with mortise and tenons. The drawer fronts are each veneered with two vertical book-matched sections of branched mahogany and outlined with applied bead molding. The drawer interiors are pine and the sides are joined to the front and back with dovetails in the corners. The drawer bottoms are let into a groove in the sides and nailed to the underside of the back. The drawers rest on runners screwed to the interior of the case sides. Three veneered horizontal drawer dividers are attached to the case front with glue. Each drawer has two shaped brass mounts with bail pulls on the front and a shaped brass escutcheon and lock at the top center. The mounts appear to be replaced based on additional screw holes on the interior of the drawer fronts.  The chest is supported by four turned and tapered feet with brass castors. There are vertical shrinkage cracks running down the center of both case sides and some chipped veneer on the case front and drawer dividers."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"1/29/2019"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"Chalk mark on left exterior back of top drawer: [4].
