The side stiles and crest form distinct ears, which are grooved and present an illusion of ribbon-like curvature. The crest peaks at center with a scalloped carving and ogee curves that move into the owl's eye splat accentuated by scrolling and cutouts.    The framed, trapezoidal seat retains its original leather, which is secured with upholstery tacks. The tacks at front extend vertically to flank the corners. A triangular block is secured with two rose-headed nails to each corner of the seat. Serpentine brackets are glued and nailed to the upper front corners of the front legs. the front spandrels beneath the front seat rail. The back legs are continuous with the stiles and are canted at the terminals. Three stretchers brace the legs and form an h-shape. The medial stretcher is half-dovetailed to the side stretchers. A fourth stretcher is secured between the back legs. Beaded edges on the stretchers match the legs."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/20/2018"},{"label":"Materials","value":"Mahogany; Birch; Maple; Yellow pine; Leather"},{"label":"Style","value":["Chippendale"]},{"label":"Basis of Date","value":"Bill of sale dated August 8, 1770."},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1770"},{"label":"Basis of Origin","value":"George Bright was active in Boston as a cabinetmaker in the mid-to-late eighteenth century."},{"label":"Place of Origin","value":"Boston, Massachusetts"},{"label":"Basis of Maker Attribution","value":"Bill of sale dated August 8, 1770 identifies Bright as the maker."},{"label":"Maker","value":["Bright, George, cabinetmaker, 1726-1805, active about 1750-1800"]},{"label":"Other Name","value":"Occasional chair"},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Chair"]},{"label":"Object Use","value":"Seating furniture"},{"label":"Category","value":"Furniture"},{"label":"Title","value":"Side chair"},{"label":"Date Modified","value":"2/17/2019"}],"description":"Side chair","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Side chair","height":1500,"width":962,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1500,"width":962},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/3ebb5047-2c56-4dc2-8afa-600aef6306d3/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/winterthur/iiif/logo"}
