Surmounting the arched hood are three brass ball-and-spire finials mounted to fluted plinths at the center and front corners of the hood. Pierced and scrolled fretwork flanks the center plinth. The arched hood has decorative cove and grooved moldings and a conforming glass door. The frame of the hood door is veneered in an unknown light-colored wood and applied to exaggerate the grain of the wood, which runs perpendicular to the frame elements. The door has a keyhole on the left side. Flanking the door are fluted free-standing columns with brass mounts and capitals. Inside the door is an enameled dial. The spandrels are painted with a sunburst design. In the lunette is a moon phase and a hemisphere. Arabic numerals denote time with pierced and scrolled hands. Outside the chapter rings at 3, 6, 9, and 12 are designations of 15, 30, 45, and 60 seconds. There is a seconds dial within the chapter ring. Winding holes flank the calendar aperture. Beneath is the maker's inscription: [James Doull / Charlestown].  Half-round and cove molding outlines the front and side edges of the trunk where it meets the hood and base. Fluted quarter-columns with brass mounts and capitals flank three-quarters of the trunk door. The columns surmount engaged plinths veneered in a light-colored wood. The rectangular trunk door is veneered with figured mahogany and outlined in light-colored inlay applied in the same manner as on the hood door. There is a keyhole in the left side of the door.  The front of the base is outlined in light-colored inlay applied in the same manner as on the hood door. An additional, narrow strip of light wood inlay is immediately below the lower band of inlay. The base has an ogee-shaped skirt and four French feet.
