The case has a hinged writing surface and four graduated drawers. On the exterior of the hinged writing surface, visible when the lid is shut, is an eight-point, inlaid star. Above the star is a shaped brass escutcheon with a keyhole. When open, visible are the butt hinges provide the mobility for the writing surface and accessible are eight pigeonhole with arched and ogee valances (four on each side of a central prospect unit) above eight small knobbed drawers stacked two by two. Five of the eight drawer fronts have double string inlay and veneer banding around the perimeter. The central prospect unit consists of smooth, engaged Doric columns flanking an open cubby above a concave knobbed drawer. The top drawer is set between knobbed lopers. The loper fronts are molded. Around each drawer front is double string inlay with veneer banding. The drawers each have two batwing escutcheons with bail pulls flanking a central batwing escutcheon with a keyhole. Around the base is bevel molding. The feet are bracket with ogee shapings in the spandrels.  The top left corner of the drawer appears to be damaged, as of 1977. Three of the eight small drawers within the desk appear to be replacements as they are missing the inlaid border (which not only appears on the other five drawer fronts but also on the larger drawers in the case) and the knobs are larger than and dissimilar to those on the other drawers.
