The chair back is a square that rakes back slightly at the shoulders. The chair has a pseudo-tablet made of two horizontal spindles with a center oval nailed between them. The spindles are painted with a horizontal line running along their centers, flanked by a vertical line on either end. The center oval is hand painted with a shell and ferns. The tablet arcs slightly between the two rear stiles. There are three additional spindles halfway down the chair?ÇÖs back painted with the same yellow lines as the tablet spindles. Most of the painted yellow rings do not continue all the way around the spindles but stop at the back. The rear stiles are a single piece of wood joined to the seat rail. They feature gold floral embellishment at the top surrounded by two parallel yellow lines which taper to a point under the arm. There is a painted yellow ring under the point, followed by three gold-painted ring turnings. The rear stiles are round, but the front face flattens towards the top and both stiles have a slight upward flare. The chair?ÇÖs seat is compass-shaped and constructed with mortise and tenon joints. There are two visible corner blocks in the front which are decoratively painted with a center gold pseudo-triangle enhanced by a yellow border. The seat itself is rush, which is likely original to the chair. There are traces of red paint on the underside of the seat, likely from the first coat of the grain painting. There is a flat-faced strip nailed to the seat rail serving as a decorative cover for the rush. This strip meets the rear stile at a miter-like joint. The strip has a center gold band flanked by yellow lines on either side. The strip applied to the back of the seat is plain. The chair?ÇÖs two arms are tenoned through the rear stile and flare outward slightly. The arms are scroll-shaped, and the scroll curves in towards the underside of the arm. A yellow line runs along each side of the arm. The arm support is a turned ball and half-sausage shape. The ball is painted gold, and the half-sausage has one yellow ring painted at its top. The arm support is tenoned through the seat rail and reinforced with a screw. The chair has two turned front legs and two round rear legs. The front legs are tenoned to the corner blocks and flare outwards slightly. The rear legs flare angle inward slightly. Each has a small hole in its bottom from being turned on the lathe. There is one rear stretcher with a yellow ring painted at each end. There are two stretchers on both the left and right sides with the same yellow paint pattern. The front stretcher is the same height as the rear stretcher but more decorative. The front stretcher is widest and flattened in an elongated diamond shape in the center. This section of the stretcher features a center gold floral hand-painted design element framed by a yellow diamond. This center diamond is flanked by gold turned rings framed by yellow painted bands. A single yellow painted band completes either end of the front stretcher. The topmost of the middle-seat back spindles is cracked and the rear left leg has damage, but overall the chair is in in stable condition."},{"label":"Date Digitized","value":"7/25/2018"},{"label":"Marks, Signatures, and Inscriptions","value":"None found"},{"label":"Basis of Materials","value":"Most of the wood surfaces are painted, making identification difficult.
