The edges of the case top are cut in ogee molding with incised, irregular lines that evoke blades of grass. Each short side of the case top has three, evenly-spaced circular holes that may have once held dowels supporting a gallery or other structure. Underneath the case top, a horizontal panel with raised relief carving runs the width of the case front. The panel is carved with leaves, pineapples, a central humanoid face blowing air, and punch-mark detail in the negative space. On either end of the panel are square blocks with carved foliate design which comprise the top of elaborately carved pilasters that flank the case front. The design of each pilaster features an large scroll with leaf decoration, terminating in a griffin with lion paw feet stretching outward from the case front. Additional foliate designs follow this element to the base \"block\" containing carved leaf designs with punch-mark detail and gadrooning along lower edge. Between these griffins, two panels set into frames make up the case front. The panels have symmetrical foliate design with punch-marks. These panels resemble closed doors, but the piece has no case back or case bottom, only a hollow opening extending to case front and sides. The case sides are square-edged boards containing relief carving of identical folate design with punch-marks to rest of piece.
